THE PODCAST

GIVE A HOOT! is a series of conversations about stuff that excite or baffle communicators and social change agents. We will explore elements of communication, the range of audiences, current practices and stimulating possibilities in the field.  We will use examples of real-life events and campaigns to draw out important lessons. And you will surely benefit from the insights and expert advice of our resource persons on topics like the callout culture, reaching the mass market, GenZ and more.

We’ve partnered with PumaPodcast, a first-mover and innovator in the Philippine podcasting space. Their focus on storytelling and end-to-end production make this a great collaboration.

THE HOSTS

WISEOWL is a strategy firm specializing in communication for social change.  We believe that good communication is part of the change we want to see in the world, and that the best advocates are good communicators.  So we equip people with the tools and training they need to run programs and campaigns that will make a real impact. We work with government bodies, non-government organizations, multilateral agencies, corporate foundations, social enterprises, movements, advocacy groups and personalities to help them spread their message and move people to action for social good.

THE EPISODES

The Callout Culture Say something even mildly politically incorrect and you’ll find yourself the target of harsh criticism. But, criticism can also help us keep each other in check. How do we make sense of this so-called culture that's being powered by social media?

How does the masa consume media? Radio, tabloids, and online videos  seem to have the widest reach. This 3-part episode discusses how we can gain insight into reaching the country's biggest population group.

The Gen Z are digital natives. They are ethical consumers and mindful employees.  It goes without saying, the Gen Z are the future of brands and movements. But, how can we reach them? What should we say?

In pursuit of awards, advertising agencies may look to brand purpose and social responsibility. Can a real win-win situation happen in this mix? This episode will dissect the impact of awards on social causes.

THE CROWDFUND

Meaningful social change is made easier when people come together around a common cause.  Along with the podcast itself, crowdfunding is a part of a strategy to build an engaged community of people with common interests.

With the funding, we will produce the first season of Give a Hoot! We’ve structured it so that you can contribute according to your ability, and offer an exciting range of rewards for your generosity.

Your backing will go towards the production of 5 episodes of Give A Hoot! Any excess amount over our funding goal will go towards more episodes and/or community-building events.

Frequently Asked Questions

WiseOwl believes that communication is a key part of any organization’s core business. This is especially true when you are working for social good; indeed, the best advocates have to be good communicators. Yet, communication is often sadly treated as a support service. Thus, even professional communicators have a hit-or-miss record of success. Give a Hoot! aims to help develop effective communicators by discussing foundational topics, practice issues, changing landscapes and current concerns. This podcast will also tackle the important role of communication in bringing about genuine and lasting social change.
