Straight out of college, I got a job as an art teacher.

On my first day, my department head only said one thing to me,

“Make it fun for them.”

So, for the next months, I was teaching my subject to three levels of gradeschool pupils with only one goal in mind---to make each class fun and engaging for them.

Everytime I tell them we are going to make a new project, I see that glow in their eyes. They feel excited with the fact that they are going to create something with their hands and they would get the chance to show what they can do to their classmates.

We would begin each project with excitement, but, many of them would feel scared of trying it out the first time. They think they’ll make a mistake or “mess it all up”. Every time that happens, I assure them that mistakes and messes are all part of the process and that they can try again until they get the hang of it.

As artworks and projects progressed, I noticed something change in them.

I can see their growing confidence in making their own creations, sometimes even outside our class!

They are not afraid anymore. And I loved it.

I learned that once you show kids that they are more capable than they thought they are and you guide them well, they will eventually thrive and use their innate giftedness to blow you away.

I have personally seen the effect of creativity, fun learning and mentoring to the growth of a child.

It can transform them from being shy and timid, into proud and confident ones.

It’s like magic!

I’ve also tried doing creative activities to the kids in my province and the same thing happens.

Now, I conclude that creativity, learning, growth and confidence are all related.

The more you feed the kids that much needed support and motivation, the more they grow in their own confidence and the better they get in doing things.

That vision made me decide to start Tuto Club.

I want that same magic to happen to all Filipino kids.

I want to share to them that it’s ok to try out something new, to fail the first time, to keep on trying until they figure it out; that they can create something out of their thoughts, that they are capable of so much more and that God made each of them beautiful, unique and with so much potential.

I believe in the Filipino child.

They are the future of this country. They are OUR future.

Whatever we plant in them will grow into things we will reap in the years ahead, so, we might as well plant good seeds in them now.

I am excited as you are to start this journey of raising a new generation of Filipinos who are not only smart, but also, well-rounded and has the heart for this country.

We are not just teaching kids, we are building this nation up, one Filipino child at a time.

I am excited to grow the Tuto Club community alongside this mission.

I am excited to have you become part of it.

Tuto Box is a subscription learning box made especially for Filipino kids.

It is a box filled with activities and materials that align with the 8 Multiple Intelligences identified by Dr. Howard Gardner, a professor of Education at Harvard University. These are:

He says that each child is smart, but, for that “genius” to come out, we must engage them in a way that is adapted to their natural way of learning.

So, for each Tuto Box, we have designed activities and materials that will support that unique learning process.

A local book your kid/s can read, 2-3 specially designed activities (they can do on their own or with you parent/guardian), allthe materials needed to finish the activities, a magazine explaining further the topics and additonal activities, and a special gift, hand-picked by the Tuto Club team.

All these things contained in our bright orange Tuto Box, delivered to your doorstep every month once you subscribe.

Subscription ranges from 3 to 6 months and one year. You can also purchase each individual box monthly.

Each month will have a different topic or theme and all materials included in the box will be aligned with that.

Topics can range from the solar system up to the Philippine indigenous culture and more.

This will not only allow your kids to increase their knowledge about a broad range of topics but it will also give them an anchor to reference from when they need to choose an area to pursue when they get older.

Since every month has a different topic, we will be collaborating with persons who are experts on their field to create unique activities for the kids every month.

This would allow them to share their vast knowledge to a younger generation of Filipinos and it will also be a good venue for the kids to learn from the best.

We also have designed the activities to cater to individual and group learning. This will let the child learn by themselves and also with others. You as a parent(s) can also take this as an opportunity to spend a good quality time with your kid/s and learn alongside them.

We have created Tuto Box to be a tool for kids to learn in a creative, engaging, and fun way. Bored kids at home can now have an alternative way of “entertaining” themselves besides playing with their gadgets or watching TV.

Offline playtime will now be looked forward to.

As with any other important component, we also have included cultural education in the creation of Tuto Box.

We have noticed that many Filipino kids nowadays have minimal or no idea about their own Filipino heritage so we decided to integrate cultural education to every part of Tuto Box.

This is because, we want them to start celebrating their own Filipino identity.

To stand by this important component we have decided that our materials will be sourced locally, we will make use of great local talents and explain things in our own local Filipino context.

As Dr. Jose Rizal said,

We believe that now is the best time to plant seeds of patriotism in young Filipinos. We want them to grow into confident and proud citizens of this country and we hope that one day they can stand tall and proud for all the world to see.

Giving is a gift in itself and a social enterprise, we dream of giving all Filipino kids the chance to learn and grow.

For every Tuto Box sold, we will be allotting a portion of our profits to Tutulong Fund.

This where we will get the funds needed to support a cause or initiative that directly and positively impacts the lives of Filipino kids all over the Philippines.

We will be choosing a different cause every month so this will be in cooperation with other organizations.

We want to impact the lives of as much young Filipinos as we can. So starting next month, be sure to expect a once-a-month Tutulong Activity with us.
